The ability of organisations to identify and develop effective and valuable interactions both inside and outside their boundaries is a key strategic challenge. Organisational Network Analysis (ONA) provides both visual and analytical methods for assessing and improving the connectivity and scalability of internal and external business linkages. Advantages accumulate at many levels, such as uncovering interactions within teams, enhancing their influence, collaboration or decision-making, to facilitating organisational change, talent management or skill mapping.

“ONA can provide an x-ray into the inner workings of an organisation — a powerful means of making invisible patterns of information flow and collaboration in strategically important groups visible”

 Cross, R (2004)

This workshop will give you an introduction to the power of ONA including what it is, why it is important, and how it can be used while working through case studies from industry and academia using open-source software applications.

The workshop will also discuss and detail common challenges and concerns while managing an ONA project such as defining the purpose and research questions, defining network boundaries, whether to use active or passive data collection methods, network connectivity contexts, managing communication, advice on data privacy and GDPR, visualising and analysing the resultant data, and generating valuable insights.
